Birding the Adirondacks:
Teddy Roosevelt Bird Walk

On 17 May 2014, Adirondack Birding Center Director Brian McAllister led a bird walk on the Loggers Loop Trail and the Barnum Brook Trail. The walk was part of the "TR" Birding Series. The walk began at 9:00 AM, when we met in the VIC building at the Paul Smith's College VIC. It was a cool, partly cloudy day. We saw or heard a total of 33 bird species.  Highlights of the walk included a fleeting, but close-up, view of an American Bittern on Heron Marsh and some excellent views of a Black-throated Green Warbler and Yellow-bellied Sapsucker on the Loggers Loop Trail.

In the VIC parking lot, we saw or heard the following birds:

Magnolia Warbler	Mourning Dove
Common Raven	Black-throated Green Warbler
Northern Parula	Red-eyed Vireo
Black-capped Chickadee	Blackburnian Warbler
Red-breasted Nuthatch

On the Loggers Loop Trail, we saw or heard the following birds:

Magnolia Warbler	Ovenbird
American Crow	Black-throated Green Warbler
Hermit Thrush	Blue Jay
Northern Parula	Yellow-rumped Warbler
Black-capped Chickadee	Blackburnian Warbler
Red-breasted Nuthatch	Northern Flicker
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker	White-throated Sparrow
Winter Wren	Black-throated Blue Warbler
Ovenbird	Chimney Swift
Ruffed Grouse	Mallard
Red-eyed Vireo	Hairy Woodpecker

On the Barnum Brook Trail, we saw or heard the following birds:

American Bittern	Yellow-rumped Warbler
Ruffed Grouse	Hermit Thrush
Swamp Sparrow	Black-capped Chickadee
Red-breasted Nuthatch	Red-winged Blackbird
Magnolia Warbler	Red-eyed Vireo
Yellow-rumped Warbler	Northern Parula
Common Yellowthroat	Ovenbird

We also observed the following shrubs and wildflowers in bloom or bud:

Purple Trillium	Trout Lily
