Birding the Adirondacks:
Teddy Roosevelt Bird Walk

Adirondack Birding Center Director Brian McAllister led a bird walk on the Heron Marsh Trail on 20 July 2013. The walk was part of the "TR" Birding Series. The walk began at 9:00 AM, when we met in the VIC building at the Paul Smith's College VIC. It was a cloudy, rainy day after three days of rain. We saw or heard a total of 29 birds. Highlights of the walk included some excellent views of a family of Ring-necked Ducks on Heron Marsh. We also saw both a Great Blue Heron and an American Bittern overflying Heron Marsh.

In the parking lot and near the VIC building, we saw or heard the following birds:

Yellow-bellied Sapsucker	Cedar Waxwing
Black-capped Chickadee	American Robin
Blue Jay	Yellow-rumped Warbler
Red-Breasted Nuthatch	Red-eyed Vireo
Purple Finch	Hairy Woodpecker
Ruby-throated Hummingbird	Red-winged Blackbird
American Goldfinch	Black-throated Blue Warbler
Northern Parula	Blue-headed Vireo

On the Heron Marsh Trail, we saw or heard the following birds:

Great Blue Heron	American Bittern
Red-winged Blackbird	Wood Duck
Ring-necked Duck	Swamp Sparrow
Black-capped Chickadee	White-throated Sparrow
Mallard	Magnolia Warbler
Hermit Thrush	Northern Parula
Red-eyed Vireo	Golden-crowned Kinglet
American Crow	Black-throated Green Warbler
Song Sparrow

We also observed the following wildflowers in bloom:

Indian Pipe	Yellow Pond Lily
Dewdrop	Pickerelweed
White Water-lily	Shinleaf
Hop clover	Yarrow
