Birding the Adirondacks:
Teddy Roosevelt Bird Walk
11 July 2015

Adirondack Birding Center Director Brian McAllister led a bird walk on 11 July 2015. The walk included portions of the Heron Marsh Trail, the VIC parking lot (always a birding hot spot), and parts of the Logger's Loop Trail and the Boreal Life Trail. The walk was part of the "TR" Birding Series. The walk began at 9:00 AM, when we met in the VIC building at the Paul Smith's College VIC. It was a warm, sunny morning, with little wind. We saw or heard a total of 29 bird species. eBird Checklist
Highlights of the walk included some excellent views of a male Common Yellowthroat from the tower on the Heron Marsh Trail. We also were treated to some nice views of some Brown Creepers and a female Blackburnian Warbler on the upland portions of the trail, near the Whispering Pines Amphitheater. We also had some good views of an Ovenbird – a species which is more often heard than seen – on the Logger's Loop Trail, and some extended views of a Lincoln's Sparrow on a Tamarack on Barnum Bog.
